This makes it possible to save arbitrarily long streams on a series of diskettes, as shown in the examples above. .PP You do not have to use the \fB\(enr\fP or \fB\(enw\fP options if you use \fIvol\fP on the command line, it will figure out by itself what the direction of the data is. The size of the device also need not be specified if you know that the device is large enough, like a tape. \fIVol\fP is then useful for the buffering it does, because \fItar\fP doesn't buffer.
