This directory contains keymaps for several national keyboards. Most of
these keymaps make the keyboard produce characters in the ISO Latin-1
character set. As you can see from for example the French keyboard map,
the accented letters are present in the keymap as is, and not as a
number. Of course you have to use the right font to view them properly.
If you want to create a new keymap then you first have to load the
proper font, usually /usr/lib/fonts/iso1.fnt, and then fill in the
proper key definitions in a new keymap. This will be a bit of a puzzle,
because until your map is finished your keyboard will act like a U.S.
keyboard. Adding non-ASCII codes could only be done as numbers, if it
wasn't for the map below that you can temporarily include in your keymap
and copy characters from. (See also keymap(5), keymap(8), and
loadfont(8).)
