prefix:	-- | - | + | ++

-- means no configure request is ever sent, incoming configure requests
   will be rejected.
-  means intially no configuration request will be sent, but this changes
   after a NAK is received. Incoming configure requests are ACKed or NAKed.
+  means that configuration requests will be sent until the option is rejected
   or ACKed. Incoming configure requests are ACKed or NAKed
++ means that configuration requests will be sent until the option is ACKed
   (rejects are ignored). If an incoming configuration request doesn't
   contain this option then it is NAKed.
